This is a great opportunity for those interested in hospitality, tourism, performing arts, entertainment, event management, theatre arts and/or working with children.

Personal Information

Note: All volunteers must be 15 or older.

Please read the following team descriptions and select your top three choices below.

  • Cake Assistant - help with serving cake after the ceremony
  • Counter – count vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians at designated island entry points
  • Event/Workshop Assistant – help with events and/or workshops (May include set up and take down of events, assisting at performances, helping performers, managing crowds, etc.)
  • Face Painting Assistant/Apprentice – help with face painting and crowd control at paint stations
  • Floater/Runner – based at Volunteer HQ, assist as needed and ready to do anything (Knowledge of Granville Island helpful)
  • Green Room Attendant - help green room manager with check-in, cleaning and hospitality
  • Green Team Member - assist the public in understanding Granville Island's Zero Waste policy
  • Information Ambassador - provide general and event-related information to the public (Need to know Granville Island, French an asset)
  • Parade Walker – help out and be IN the parade
  • Roving Greeter - greet the public and provide information on the day's events; hand out Canada Day pins and flags
  • Shift or Group Leader - serve as a leader to orient and supervise Counters, Greeters, Green Team members and other volunteers
  • Tattoo Station Attendant – hand out Canada Day temporary tattoos at the tattoo stations
  • Volunteer HQ Assistant – help the Volunteer Coordinator with meet and greet, organization and communication

Please select (in order of preference) which positions you would like to be assigned:

We will try our best to place you in your first preference, but we cannot guarantee these positions.

Canada Day Availability

For training purposes, volunteers are invited to attend a one-hour orientation on Granville Island prior to the event.


Liability Waiver and Release

Important: Please agree to the following if you are over the age of 18. If you are under the age of 18, have a legal guardian read the following, enter their name and accept on your behalf.

In consideration of being permitted to participate in Canada Day on Granville Island, I hereby release the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, its staff, sponsors, contractors, vendors, and agents from any claim arising from loss, damage, or injury, howsoever incurred, resulting from my or my child’s participation in or about the event.
