Masks now MANDATORY in all indoor spaces (updated Dec 3, 2020)

19 novembre 2020
Our visitors’ safety and well-being is our highest priority on Granville Island.

MASKS ARE NOW MANDATORY IN THE PUBLIC MARKET and in all indoor spaces on Granville Island unless eating or drinking.

Additional temporary restrictions: November 7 – December 7. Travel outside of your health region should be limited to essential travel only. Vancouver Coastal Health and the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, Government of BC, requires BC residents to postpone recreational and social travel, including vacation, and/or visiting friends or family outside of your health region. This of course includes Granville Island. With the exception of essential travel, visitors to Granville Island must live in the Vancouver Coastal Region. While on Granville Island feel free to socialize, walk and/or dine up to 6 people in total with those in your immediate family, household or core bubble, or for people who live aone, up to a total of three. Long walks in the open air on Granville Island are encouraged!

COVID-19 is being effectively monitored and treated in British Columbia. Vancouver Coastal Health, Provincial Health, and the Public Health Agency of Canada is actively monitoring the situation and working with the World Health Organization and other international partners. We strongly encourage our local and Canada wide visitors to check the latest available information before travelling to any public place.

In line with direction from global health authorities, we are taking precautionary measures to help stop the spread of virus, including increased levels of cleaning and disinfection in all common areas, limiting capacity, monitoring for gatherings, and continual monitoring of reputable government sources for the most up-to-date information and escalation requirements. Masks are mandatory for all CMHC-Granville Island staff, merchants and visitors.

Capacity in the Public Market (exclusive of staff) has been reduced from 700 visitors, to 200 shoppers at any one time. Merchants in the Public Market are utilizing social distancing measures and capacity at their individual locations, as well as sanitizing and masks. In the case of Oyama Sausage and Lee’s Donuts, two of our most popular merchants, this means line-ups must remain outside.

Designated exit and entrance locations are clearly marked with signage in the Public Market, and capacity numbers are monitored every 15 minutes. In the event of capacity being reached, a lineup, or lineups, for the Public Market will be implemented by our Public Market coordinators and security staff. This often happens on a weekend, during fine weather.  All 18 exits continue to remain fire exits.

Masks are now mandatory in all indoor spaces. The Chief Medical Officer has recommended 3-layer non-medical masks as an added layer of protection along with frequent handwashing, social distancing and visiting only within your core bubble. Please utilize our many sanitizing stations and of course, continue to maintain a safe 2 metre (6 feet/2 adult arm’s length) distance from anyone in the Public Market and across Granville Island.

The Public Market merchants ask that you support them and their safety by please shopping in limited numbers for groceries to comply with our social distancing needs in the Public Market.  If using your own shopping bags, please do not put them down on the counter, merchants will pass your goods to you.

At this time tours, groups and gatherings are not permitted on Granville Island. All use of public space for private events is currently prohibited. All  future use of public space must be approved and authorized
