An Intergenerational Celebration and Learning Lab on Black Hair Care. Includes a film screening on black hair, a slideshow and cultural history on black hairstyles and live hair tutorials. The program begins at the Waterfront Theatre followed by the Faire in Studio 1398. In Our Heads About Our Hair (79 mins), directed by Hemamset Angaza, examines issues Black women confront regarding hair and self-esteem. Despite a current natural-hair trend in some urban areas, many Black women say conforming to mainstream beauty standards makes it easier to find mates and corporate employment. This feature documentary celebrates natural beauty and also offers opinions (and wisdom) from people making other hairstyling choices.
