Now until January 3rd, daily from sunset, we invite you to stroll our warm and elegant holiday light display. With complimentary parking, and of course no entrance fee, family and friends can walk the expansive grounds of Granville Island’s almost 40 acres, under the stars, or under an umbrella (after all, it is winter in Vancouver), and take in a relaxed evening among the lights, restaurants, bars and taprooms. With multiple entrances on to the “Island” and wide open spaces, it’s a perfect holiday stroll.
Come early to check out the many retail shops, unique local goods and artist studios, open until 6 pm, and of course, the famous Granville Island Public Market – and if you’re coming from downtown, why not take one of the little ferry boats over from the west end.
Highlights include a stunning oversized star in the center of the Public Market courtyard, which changes colour for the occasion, the jewel tones along Railspur Alley (artisan district), giant musical notes among the trees that surround the theatres, a perfect star hanging over Alder Bay in Ron Basford Park, and a canopy of lights hidden in a secret location – or simply enjoy all the trees wrapped in warm lights making Granville Island glow.
Live music is on nightly at the Sandbar restaurant and “All Aboard” returns this winter, offering kids and youth a free mini skateboard ramp, covered and secured, supervised by volunteers from the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition. Open daily including Christmas and New Year’s Day, check website for hours and to book a time.
Restaurants, cafes and Public Market food stalls are open daily, with dozens of excellent takeout options – and many restaurants and bars open late. Those include;
