Granville Island is thrilled to receive, in partnership with Para Space, the Green for Life Community Award in recognition of the benefit to the public through the development of our green spaces, and promoting the benefits of plants and landscapes while fostering community spirit and commitment to our community and environmental legacy. This spring Para Space will be working with us on the Hives for Humanity bee friendly garden, planted this past summer at 1244 Cartwright Street (beside Performance Works), in preparation for our new hives and apiary.
Granville Island has also added 12 new covered outdoor seating areas this past year. Our “picnic pods” are sustainably built, with seating for up to 6 people. Dotted around the outside of the Public Market, the picnic pods are covered to protect you from sun, rain, and we hope, seagulls!
In response to Covid, and the need for additional outdoor seating, Granville Island created three new community gathering and seating areas last year, as well as expediting over a dozen new temporary and permanent patios outside our restaurants, cafés and food shops.
