Go on a Date with Culture and enjoy a variety of live events, demonstrations, food, and the best of local artists! An array of local artists will be sharing demonstrations of their craft with visitors, surrounded by music, food, and a great cultural atmosphere on the iconic Granville Island. A Date with Culture includes a large-scale printmaking event – Steamroller print, where artists and printmakers will team up to celebrate the art of woodcut printing using a steamroller as a press. The artists will carve blocks, and the works will be printed in small editions in a public performance atmosphere. The resulting suite of unique 4’ x 8’ woodprints on cloth and on paper will be displayed on-site, as they come off the press. Community members and visitors will have the opportunity to contribute to the carving of one print panel, designed by a local artist, over the course of the weekend, as well as join in on demonstrations and hands-on workshops with local artists and island vendors.
