Iris Wong is a contemporary realist potter who lives and works in Vancouver, BC. A native of Hong Kong, her work expresses the profound spirit and atmosphere of the Chinese culture. Simple and timeless forms are the hallmark of Iris’ work. With unique designs and intriguing glazes, Iris brings her originality to classic ceramic pieces. Taking functional pieces like teapots, vases, ikebanas, fountains, and bowls, and turning them into something beautiful is Iris’ passion. After graduating from secondary school in Hong Kong, she took a course in clay work at a community center. Like other potters, she learned the basics techniques of centering cups and bowls and, in no time, found herself glued to the wheel for countless hours. Nine years into Iris’ immigration to Canada, in 2002, she was invited to exhibit her work at The Art Gallery of Port Moody. That same year, her work was juried and selected as part of the premier quality, locally made art to be exhibited and sold at the Granville Island Public Market, where she still sells her work to this day. She has also attended a number of renowned arts and craft shows, such as the Circle Craft Christmas Market. Iris continues to explore innovations in ceramic design and glaze developments while looking to express the profound spirit and atmosphere of the Chinese culture.
Iris’ work can be found in Circle Craft Gallery Store in the Net Loft on Granville Island.
