Granville Island looks forward to celebrating Lunar New Year traditions in January. 2020 marks the Year of the Rat, and there are many ways to celebrate with us on the island!
January 25th – February 9
Snap a photo in front of our lantern installations, around the Public Market or inside the Net Loft atrium.
Sunday January 26th
10:30am – 12:00 pm
This annual tradition starts in the Public Market. Follow the lion dancers as they make their way through the market and around the island bringing good luck and prosperity. The God of Fortune will hand out lucky red envelopes and good wishes for the year.
Watch a traditional form of Chinese folk art that uses hot, liquid sugar to create two and three dimensional figures. Walk away with a tasty edible art piece.
Location: Public Market, Southwest entrance
10am – 12:30pm: Sugar Painting
10:30am – 12pm: Lion Dance
