See the light, after dark

When the sun goes down on Granville Island, memorable nights shine through.
If this past year has given us anything, it’s a fresh perspective. We’ve been gifted with a new appreciation for the things we’ve missed doing; dinners out, seeing a live show, and having drinks with friends. On Granville Island, we can revisit all the things we love—and then some.
The island’s fun, carefree energy is palpable. It’s a destination that brings the night to life; the twinkling lights, renowned cuisine, theatres, and serene oceanside set the stage for an evening unlike any other. When you experience the island’s lights illuminating everything around you, one thing becomes clear: this is where unforgettable nights begin.
Take advantage of the freshest produce in the city and have your pick of everything from elevated West Coast fare to global cuisine. For seafood lovers, head to Sandbar. It houses an oyster bar, wood-burning grill, and made-to-order sushi. And because it’s perched at the edge of the island, every seat has waterfront views. You’ll even catch live music here nightly.
Alternatively, head over to The Vancouver Fish Company located at the entrance of Granville Island for a fresh take on West Coast seafood favourites. Here you’ll find mouth-watering dishes including their famous seafood platter, albacore tuna, wild sockeye salmon, seafood chowder, and halibut fish & chips (are you drooling yet?).
For Pacific Northwest fare, grab a table at the elegant Dockside Restaurant, which serves up comforting classics with a modern twist. Their waterfront patio is the best in the city, winning best patio in Vancouver 3 years running.
The newest addition to Granville Island’s food scene, Alimentaria Mexicana, has become a fast favourite – recently voted “Best Patio” in Vancouver magazine. This culinary concept from Mexican-Canadian chef and entrepreneur Ernesto Gomez and the team behind Chancho Tortilleria and Nuba is an immersive culinary experience showcasing the time-honoured techniques, traditions, and products of Mexico.
Top off the evening at one of Granville Island’s bars or lounges. For spirits, stop by The Liberty Distillery. Here you’ll find award-winning vodka, gin, and whiskey handcrafted on-site with 100% organic BC grain. Relax in their delightfully cozy cocktail bar, and sip on a handcrafted cocktail. If you’re looking for a pint, Granville Island Brewing Co. is your spot. This brewery was Canada’s first microbrewery and is dedicated to handcrafting 100% natural beers using pure ingredients.
There’s no experience quite like an evening at Granville Island. Stroll the island after a performance at the Arts Club or The Improv Centre with incredible food, locally-crafted drinks, and an atmosphere that’s nothing short of magical, it’ll be the night you’ll talk about for years to come.
